Poul Kjaerholm föddes år 1929 i Østervrå, Danmark där han studerade till snickare innan han tog examen år 1953 vid Kunsthåndvaerkerskolen i Köpenhamn. Där studerade han under Hans Wegner och Jørn Utzon, två tongivande formgivare som påverkat dansk designhistoria och även kom att inspirera Kjaerholm.

Best known for his designs of the iconic Tulip Chair (1961) and Hammock Chair (1965), Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm used innovative construction materials to produce fluid designs that were elegant, functional, and decidedly modern.
